What’s the difference between coaching and therapy?
Let’s break it down.
The moments that define you have already happened, and therapy helps you pinpoint most of those moments. Coaching helps you understand that the way you integrate the lessons from those moments is what will be the difference between you remaining stuck in the past and evolving into the human you’re designed to evolve into.
Here’s a cheat sheet:
➤ Therapy
Focus: Healing the past and improving mental health
Deals with: Emotional wounds, trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, mental illness
Practitioner: Licensed mental health professionals (therapists, counselors, psychologists)
Approach: Often dives into childhood, subconscious patterns, and clinical diagnoses
Goal: Emotional healing, stability, and deeper self-understanding
Common tools: Talk therapy, CBT, EMDR, inner child work, somatic therapy
Think of therapy as:
A safe space to unpack and process what's been weighing on your nervous system, often rooted in the past.
➤Coaching
Focus: Growth, goals, and future potential
Deals with: Confidence, mindset, career, relationships, communication, habits
Practitioner: Typically certified through an accredited life coaching program, may have lived experience, niche expertise, and additionally have a relevant degree
Approach: Action-oriented, forward-moving, solution-focused
Goal: Transformation, clarity, motivation, and strategy for your goals
Common tools: Vision setting, accountability, mindset work, embodiment practices
Think of coaching as:
A hype team + roadmap for your next-level life, focused on where you’re going, not where you’ve been.
More about coaching…
Coaching helps you take actionable steps to create the life that you want so you don’t continue subscribing to the life that external forces (society, your parents, the government, institutions, TikTok, etc) have created for you.
If you’re here, it’s likely that you’re still following the life that these external forces have projected onto you in one way or another. The structure, beliefs, and values of these external forces were adopted by you to keep you safe in some way. To keep you fitting into the boxes, the norms, the social acceptance criteria.
Most of us learned along our way that if we don’t question authority, we’ll be safe and doing the “right” thing. If you are a human, there is a 99% chance you’ve fallen victim to this mentality, which means that many of your beliefs, values, and perceptions of the world aren’t actually yours; They are your parents or societies, and you began picking up these patterns as a child, because as children we trust that the world around us knows better than we do.
When we realize this, we need to also realize that the knowing isn’t the doing. The doing is when we actually delve apart what parts of our being are authentically ours, what parts aren’t, and release what needs letting go in order for our actions to be in alignment with our desires. When we know better, we do better.
You cannot manifest a life full of abundance while still embodying a life that keeps you stuck and small. You know when Albert Einstein said, ‘You can’t fix a problem with the same thinking that created it”? Yeah… same beat!
In coaching, we are gonna get right the fuck on to the “do better” part of when we know better we do better. We will get clear on who YOU are, what perceptions/beliefs/values you’ve been carrying that are and aren’t yours, and releasing what is no longer in alignment by shaking off lingering shame and transmuting it into a sacred self-confidence.
I will help you give a swift middle finger to any outdated information that is taking up physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual real estate so you have the space for NEW beliefs and attitudes to usher into your realm of existence, and change the way your wired for the better.
Imagine the weight of confronting all your shit, for a moment it makes you deeply uncomfortable, but once we get through that, the only way forward is to create new possibilities for yourself so you don't repeat all your shit.
So come on, we have some deep remembering, matrix escaping, and neuropathway rewiring to do.
